12 days wildlife Kenya and Tanzania
When you think of Africa, you’re probably thinking of Kenya. It’s the lone acacia silhouetted on the savannah against a horizon stretching into eternity. It’s the snow-capped mountain almost on the equator and within sight of harsh deserts. It’s the lush, palm-fringed coastline of the Indian Ocean, it’s the Great Rift Valley that once threatened to tear the continent asunder
Why Visit Kenya?
Kenya has that wide geographical diversity typical of East Africa – coral fringed coastline, savannah plains, the enormous lakes of the Great Rift Valley, acacia bush, highland deserts, and the glaciated mountain peaks of Mount Kenya and Mount Elgon.
With a huge choice of National Parks, game reserves and private concession areas, a Kenya safari offers a simply wonderful wildlife experience. Choose from small intimate safari camps to grand lakeside colonial houses, or privately-owned ranches and farmhouses. There are also some excellent camps with special children’s clubs making a Kenya safari ideal for families. Game viewing is abundant and with a standout regional flight system you can easily visit two or more national parks on your safari.
The wildlife is abundant and diverse. The Big 5 are to be found among Kenya’s many game parks, and the Masai Mara is host to the famous wildebeest migration, which can usually be seen between July and October. Marvel as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, antelope, and their accompanying predators travel from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara. With good reason, the Masai Mara is often called “the most magnificent natural theatre in the world”.
Tsavo, Amboseli, Samburu and Shaba National Parks also offer excellent safari experiences, each with their own characteristic terrain and wildlife. Most Kenya safaris are vehicle based, but a number of parks offer walking safaris. Amboseli National Park is located at the base of Kilimanjaro, and can combine well with one of our Mt Kenya or Kilimanjaro treks.
Kenya has numerous coastal options for those seeking a beach holiday – an ideal start or finish to any Kenya safaris! For an insight into Swahili culture and architecture consider the legendary 13th century Swahili town of Lamu and the nearby islands of Manda, Kiwayu and Funzi Keys, which all offer stylish accommodation and private beaches. Diving, snorkelling and boating are excellent and readily available.
